PICO Activity Plan: Golf Course Game

BUILDING A Interactive Golf Course

1: Stuff you need BEFORE the lesson:

The group of students will be making this course as a team

Make sure every computer has the PICO program.

Make sure there is enough cardboard to build the skee-ball structure..

Make sure each group has a complete PICO kit

2: Opening Concepts:

Intro to PICO.

Explain what we will be doing today: Making the Golf Course game

Show sensors that will be used from the PICO kits.

Explain PICO sensors. Show what materials are needed to make the game.

3: Focus of the Lesson:

The focus of this lesson is to learn how to make things happen when a sensor is triggered while making a fun game.

4: Teaching:

1: Break the group into teams...working specifically on the parts of the golf course: 1) Putter

2: Let them know where the sensors would go.

3: Teach how to program the game in PICO with step by step directions.

5: Wrap up:

1: Make sure everyone has cleaned up their area. Programs saved and closed, scrap cardboard thrown away.

2: Circle up: Ask various people questions: What are sensors? What can you do with them? What did they learn?

If everyone finishes early, have additional discussion – get feedback. What can be improved? What could we do to make it more fun?

Hi Donna from Roslindale, I am having a hard time visualizing what the cardboard skeeball structure would look like and what is holding it together tape? glue? other? What age is this for? Will there be a picture?
