Gimp Activity Plan: Bedazzle your name.

Design and create a bedazzled name !

1: Stuff you need BEFORE the lesson:

1. Computer per student.

2. Make sure every computer has Gimp editor and morzilla fox for images and the use of google.

2: Opening Concepts:

1. Explain what Gimp is and how it could be used in life beyond the tech center.

2. Explain what we will be doing today: Creating a more interesting side to your name and making it who you are.

3. Explain the use of the path tool and how it could be used in different forms.

4. Explain the concept of the filter tab (e.g. the blur, lense flare, lighting effects) and the different uses of it.

3: Focus of the Lesson:

The focus of this lesson is designing your name the way it best fits you and your personality. Students will explore the path tool, the eraser tool, the paint brush, and the text tool.

4: Teaching:

1. Have everyone type their name on Gimp using the text tool and find the best fit of size and font.

2. Show them paintbrush tool to design their name with any of the designs.

3. Also show them the Blur, Light and Shadow, and Distort effects under the filter tab.

4. As people successfully create a badazzled name, ask them how they would use this same method to create a bedazzled logo for the tech center.

5: Wrap up:

1: Have people who are finished with their names, save their work into the users folder under their name.

2: Make sure everyone has cleaned up their area. 

3: Circle up: Ask various people questions: What else can you use this project for ? What do people use Gimp for?

If everyone finishes early, have additional discussion – get feedback. What can be improved? What was good ? What was hard and easy ?
