Alternative Energy Activity Plan: Energy Town

The youth design an energy efficient town!

1: Stuff you need BEFORE the lesson:

- White board

-Dry erase markers.

- Name tags

2: Opening Concepts:

  - What is Global Warming?

  - Where did you hear it from?Save

  - What causes it?

  - Why is it bad?

   -How we can help fix the problem

  - What are renewable energy sources?

  - What are they for?

  - How is it an alternative energy source vs oil, gas, fossil fuel?

  - What do you see around your community that is renewable energy? 

  - Why is it called renewable energy? 

3: Focus of the Lesson:

The focus of this lesson is creating a community that is enviromently friendly

4: Teaching:

1: Assign roles(Mayor, two construction workers, representative, the people)

2: Have kids draw an enviromently friendly town on white board

3: Talk about different types of renewable energy that the kids could use for their town

4:Let kids make decisions for the town

5: Wrap up:

1: Ask kids what they learned building their own community

2: What is global warming? What can you do to help solve it? 

If everyone finishes early, have additional discussion – get feedback. What can be improved?
