Gimp Activity Plan: "SuperHero Me"
Replace the face of a super hero with your own or someone famous !

1: Stuff you need BEFORE the lesson:
1 computer per student.
Make sure every computer has Gimp
The pictures of the superhero's and themsleves/famous people.

2: Opening Concepts:
Explain what we will be doing today: Replacing the Face of a Super Hero.
Show and explain the example of Barack Obama and Batman Replacement
Ask the kids which super hero's are they interested in and have them pick 2.
3: Focus of the Lesson:
The focus of this lesson is to see how you can create yourself as super hero using the WAND tool and LAYERS in GIMP.
4: Teaching:
1: Have everyone pick a superhero they would want to be.
2: After the video, elaborate on the instructions from video and have them Create it!
-Select RECTANGLE tool and put a box around the face and copy(ctrl+c) then paste (ctrl+p) on to other image,
-Resize the picture so that they fit together use the scale tool
-use the WAND tool to select useless background pieces and delete
-use the DRAG tool to drag the head on to the other body
3: Have people who are finished create a background using the paint brush tool
5: Wrap up:
1: Have the children save their work to the computers
2: Circle up: Ask various people questions: What was difficult/easy about this lesson? What did you learn today? Do you think that you would be able to create a super villain with what you learned today? how?
If everyone finishes early, have additional discussion – get feedback. What can be improved?
