GIMP: Curved Text
GIMP: Curved Text
What is it: Logos from the videogame, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin Reason: The left logo is the concept artwork. Since they didn't make any more artwork for each region game, I wanted to make the US one. Difficulty: Medium Duration: About an hour (trying to make it perfect)
Here I'll show you how to make your text curved. Which will take about 10 miinutes or so, unless you want to make it perfect.
1. Open a new file. Any size, background, etc. Take the pen tool. Click once to make one point then click and hold at another area and drag it to make a curve.
***You can adjust the line by moving the anchor points, the line itself and the 2 extra lines coming from the anchor point.
You should see your path tool in your "Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo" window. (Dialogs > Create a New Dock > Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo)
2. Go to the Text Tool and type whatever you want. (The path should disappear temporarily)
3. Click "Text Along Path" in the text window. (Make sure the text is clicked on) It should be something like this.
Note: It depends on the length of the word and the length of the curve and it always start from left to right. So when making your curve, try to make the word and the line at the same length otherwise, you can always edit your path in the "Layers, Channels, Paths..." window. (Right click on the path and click "Path tool")
4. Take the paintbrush tool, choose any color and color in the text. It won't go outside of the text.
5. Delete the original text. Go to your "Layers" window and click on "Background" or the most bottom layer then right click on the new one and go to Select > From Path. It should select that text.
6. Deselect everything (Shift+Ctrl+A). Go to your "Layers, Channels, Paths..." tool and you should see a tool labeled by your text. Click on the eye to make it go invisible to remove the outline and you're done.
