iSNEAKERGIMP Activity Plan: iSneaker Design your own sneaker!
Example:iSneaker card.pdf
1: Stuff you need BEFORE the lesson: 1 computer per student. Make sure every computer has GIMP download. Make sure you have variety of images of sneakers and backgrounds. Have a method of showing some other examples of GIMP projects or iSneaker project.
2: Opening Concepts: Show the Intro to the GIMP / Intro to activity. Explain what we will be doing today: Designing a Sneaker Show a GIMP sneaker project in the computer. Explain how the path tool works, and what they need to do in order to design the sneaker (paste in; select from path; make a path). Ask the kids how they will design their sneaker, and talk about it.
3: Focus of the Lesson: The focus of this lesson is to design a sneaker using the path tool in GIMP.
4: Teaching: 1: Have everyone choose a plain white shoe to design. 2: Have everyone choose 4-5 different backgrounds/pictures to put onto their shoe. 3: Explain/show how to use the path tool and steps for pasting in sections. 4. Allow the students to design their shoe.
5: Wrap up: 1: Make sure everyone has cleaned up their area. Programs saved and close. 2: Circle up: Ask various people questions: What is GIMP? What do people use GIMP for? How can they use GIMP to do another project? What else they can do in GIMP?
If everyone finishes early, have additional discussion – get feedback. What can be improved?
