The I-guide is a wheeled robot that is programed to start and stop at different locations in the SETC. At each stop the screen will talk and give you an overview of where you are in the center. The screen if the robot which shows an animate face will have all the information on it while talking to you so you do not miss anything. Once the message is given the robot will then automatically start up again and continue on to the next stop.Our I-guide robot uses the Scratch program, Press Fit from Fab Lab and Arduino Boards which has to do with Modkit. We need Modkit to make the robot move in different directions. Scratch is going to be used for the screen of the robot. Press fit is used for when we build in certain parts of the I-guide. 

 

Problem/Issue being adressed: It will be giving a tour of the Learn2Teach Teach2Learn program and SETC, despite the number of visitors. We decided to design and prepare a tour using a technical object due to the fact that it is a technology center being toured

 

 

 

Project Summary: Our project that we will be creating is a robot mounted with a screen that displays information about the South End Technology Center which is capable at giving a tour of the Technology Center.

 

 

 

 Pros:  The good thing about this project is it will give a tour of the technology center and will reflect what our program is about and how it benefits us youth teachers to use technology productively

 

 

 

Cons: The difficulties about this project is the concept of trying to use Press Fit to make the screen and also trying to get the robot to move and function quickly with the heavy screen mounted on it

Fab Lab: We use the Fab Lab to cut out the key pieces of the design.
Modkit - a physical programming tool that can run the motors for movement

 

Scratch - the animation of the face

 

 

History/Sources

Other projects that is similar to the I-guide is the I-Bed and Billy the Trash Can. They are programed the same way as the I-guide. The I-Guide is programed with modkit and arduino. the only thing that might be actually different is we actually use scratch because we have a screen to our robot.

This is something like the I-guide except it guides people in different way. This project is called the four legged robot guide dog. This project was created last year 11/21/11. The guide dog can be programmed for blind people and people with other disabilities.

1. Start the animation for the display

 

2. Finish a prototype for the gears and motion

 

3. Discover if ModKit or Arduino will be able to push the XO laptop display

 

 

7/12/12

 

 

 

 

Today we programmed the iGuide to have motion as of right now we've seen it turn and also move forward.

 

With the screen, the speed of the iGuide decreases and without the screen the speed of the iGuide increases but other than that everything else moves perfectly. We also spoke to Donna and she said that she would lend us some wheels and a motor from the lawnbook project to help our project.

Goals for the day:

 

Our goal for today is for James and Renic to build a shell for the robot in order to hold the screen up and for Sule to program the iGuide to move around the building and form questions for David to give to Ed about ModKit

 

Progress:

 

Renic made a seat for the motor to stay on and the made the shell for the screen and James completed the goal of the day for making a shell for the robot with press fit holds for all of the incorporated lego pieces we ran into altercations with finding wheels but we eventually found enough wheels for our robot. Sule began to program the robot using ModKit although she ran into a couple of difficulties and she also began to make a

This is a stronger motor so the I Guide can move faster.

 

 

 

Goals for the day:

 

Our goal for today is to finish building our prototype and to fix and problems that might occur.

 

 

 

Progress: Today James and Renic drew a sketch of how the final project should look and also began to make the shell and for the final project. Sule began to program the the robot after James tried and was unsuccessful.

 

 

Wednesday 7/18/12

 

 

Our goals for today to start working on the physical features of the robot.

 

James worked on trying out different parts to see if they work and if they do work then we start building.

 

Sule  worked on the scratch program for the robot screen

 

Renic and Somto worked on what the programed iGuide would say while giving the tour around the technology center

 

James are starting to build the the project.

 

Tuesday 7/24/12

Today's goal is to finish the final.

Today James and Sule started fabricating pieces for the final project.

 

Thursday 7/26/12

 

Today James finally finished the final physical piece of the project. Sule began to program and put everything into the box

Today we got our new motors so James is working in the fab lab, Sule working witht he motor, Renic and Somtoo working on wiki

Today James plans on discovering a way to make the wheels on the iGuide capable of holding the entire structure while being able to rotate and do the task of giving a tour of the technology center
